How BigPond Cable Works
If you are in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane / Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth, you can access this cable broadband services. If FOXTEL™ is available to you, you should be able to get BigPond™ Cable. The Telstra cable used to provide Foxtel to your house is the same cable used to provide BigPond cable.
Downloads and Uploads
The data that you download and upload by viewing websites (including downloading and sending email) is counted in your monthly usage allowance.
Installation & Modem
How it Works
There are two choices with the installation of BigPond Cable Broadband - Professional Installation or Self Installation (if you already have Foxtel cable outlet with two or less wallplates).
Self Installation Kit
Self installation involves using a self install CD and following instructions in the self install kit. This self install kit contains:
- A Cable Wireless modem (Home Network Gateway)
- A BigPond Self-Install CD
- A BigPond Broadband User Guide

BigPond Ultimate Cable Home Network Gateway (4 ports)
A BigPond Ultimate Cable modem from Telstra BigPond is required to acces the BigPond Ultimate Cable plans. The BigPond Ultimate Cable Home Netowrk Gateway allows you to connect multiple computers / devices in the house wirelessly. This is a modem which connects to the internet and wireless router in one, allowing you to access the internet wirelessly in your house. There are also 4 wired ports in the rear of the device to allow you to connect standard ethernet cables to the device.

Email
BigPond membership includes 1 email address and mailbox on your Cable account. You can choose your own BigPond email address (as long as it's available). There is 20MB of mail storage space and each additional mailbox costs $1 per month with up to 15 available.
BigPond Content is Un-Metered
All BigPond Music, Movies, Sport and Games services are un-metered for BigPond Cable Members. This means that these downloads are not counted towards your usage allowance each month.
Switch Between Plans, Once a Month
You can move up and down between higher and lower download allowances for free, once a month. This feature helps you increase your download allowance if you expect to have increased use of the internet during a given month.
